Steve McQueen Honored with Volta Lifetime Achievement Award

award · 2026-04-24

On February 28, filmmaker and artist Steve McQueen was honored with the Volta Lifetime Achievement Award during the Dublin International Film Festival. This prestigious accolade, named after Dublin's first dedicated cinema, is one of the highest recognitions in Irish cinema. Prior to the award ceremony, McQueen engaged in the inaugural Tanqueray 0.0% Film Club with Irish actor and screenwriter Mark O’Halloran. Renowned for his impactful works such as '12 Years a Slave' (2013) and the 'Small Axe' series (2021), McQueen explores themes of class, racism, and historical injustices. Earlier this year, his documentary 'Occupied City' (2023) was released in the UK, and a new immersive installation will launch at Dia Beacon in New York this May, later moving to Schaulager in June 2025.
