Steve McCurry's 'Leggere' Exhibition at Brescia Photo Festival

The Brescia Photo Festival presents 'Leggere' (Reading), a solo exhibition of Steve McCurry's photographs at the Museo Santa Giulia, curated by Biba Giacchetti. The show transforms McCurry's book 'Leggere' (published by Electa) into an immersive experience, with set design by Peter Bottazzi who crafted each page into a tactile, artisanal journey. The exhibition alternates photographs with literary quotations selected by writer and photographer Roberto Cotroneo, creating a parallel narrative that deepens the theme of reading as a physical and mental voyage. McCurry's images, spanning his career, capture people reading in diverse settings—from war zones to quiet corners—highlighting the universal and transcendent power of reading. The festival, initiated by the Municipality of Brescia and Fondazione Brescia Musei, aims to consolidate public and private photography initiatives across the city, which has a strong photographic heritage including a national photography museum and a recently established photography center. Brescia previously hosted a photography biennial for a decade, attracting national and international photographers. The exhibition runs at the Museo Santa Giulia, with the festival showcasing the city's deep-rooted connection to photography.
