Steve Cavanagh on Conmen, Lawyers, and the Birth of Eddie Flynn

Former lawyer turned crime writer Steve Cavanagh has released his tenth novel, 'One Of Us is Guilty', featuring his signature character Eddie Flynn, a conman turned lawyer. Cavanagh, who grew up in Belfast and worked as a solicitor, drew inspiration from his courtroom experience, noting that misdirection, distraction, persuasion, and manipulation are skills shared by conmen and trial lawyers. His debut novel, 'The Defence', was signed in a police custody suite in Bangor, County Down, after a custody sergeant bought it from Eason's. Despite initial rejections from over 50 agents, Cavanagh's career took off with 'Thirteen', whose tagline 'The serial killer isn't on trial, he's on the jury' resonated with readers. He has sold over five million books globally, translated into more than 40 languages, and has been praised by author Freida McFadden, who called 'Kill for Me, Kill for You' a masterpiece. Cavanagh's latest novel explores extreme wealth and power in America, and he is critical of AI companies, accusing them of piracy. He plans to take a break from Eddie Flynn to write a standalone novel and a Sherlock Holmes story for the Conan Doyle estate.
