Sternberg Press Publishes Critical Anthology on Kosovo's Contemporary Art Scene
In 2018, Sternberg Press published 'Notes on Contemporary Art in Kosovo,' curated by Katharina Schendl. This 128-page book comprises eight essays and two interviews, exploring the evolution of art in Kosovo since the 1990s, and is part of the tranzit.at Glossary series, filling the void left by MoMA's anthology. Notable contributors include Vesa Sahatçiu, Shkëlzen Maliqi, Sezgin Boynik, Miran Mohar, and Charles Esche. The volume includes interviews with Edi Muka, Dardan Zhegrova, and Astrit Ismaili, as well as essays by Venice Biennale artists Petrit Halilaj and Flaka Haliti. It addresses Kosovo's modernist heritage and significant institutions like the National Gallery of Kosovo, but does not cover KOSOVO 2.0, Autostrada Biennale, or Sislej Xhafa's 1997 intervention.
