Sterling Ruby's HEX sculpture and panel discussion explore art's cosmic connections in Venice

A panel discussion took place on Thursday, 9 June 2022, at 5pm at Casa dei Tre Oci in Venice, led by ArtReview editor Mark Rappolt. The event featured artist Sterling Ruby alongside art historians Ester Coen and Mario Codognato, with an introduction from Nicolas Berggruen. This was the second event in a series organized by ArtReview and the Berggruen Institute, focusing on the intersections of philosophy, science, and culture. Ruby's sculpture, HEX, was displayed at Palazzo Diedo, drawing inspiration from hex signs found on 19th-century Pennsylvania Dutch barns. The Berggruen Institute, founded in 2010, acquired both Casa dei Tre Oci and Palazzo Diedo, which are undergoing renovations by architect Silvio Fassi, set to be completed in 2024. Ruby, born in 1972, is known for his diverse artistic creations, while Coen focuses on Italian Futurism, and Codognato has curated significant exhibitions.
