Stephen Shore's Uncommon Places Exhibition at Vancouver Art Gallery
The Vancouver Art Gallery presents Stephen Shore's landmark series Uncommon Places (1973–1981), featuring never-before-exhibited works. The exhibition follows a donation of over 800 photographs by the Chan Family, Canadian philanthropists, establishing the gallery as a major repository of Shore's oeuvre. Curator Eva Respini highlights Vancouver's role in photography history and the dialogue between Shore's vision and local legacy. Shore's color photographs of small-town America, taken during road trips, revolutionized photography as fine art alongside William Eggleston. The series, originally published as a book in 1982, captures ordinary scenes with vivid clarity. The show runs until July 19.
