Stella Rollig and Wolfgang Bergmann Appointed New Directors of Vienna's Belvedere Museum

On January 16, 2017, Thomas Drozda, the Austrian culture minister, named Stella Rollig as the artistic director and Wolfgang Bergmann as the commercial director of Vienna's Belvedere museum. This decision came after controversies surrounding the management of the former director, Agnes Husslein-Arco, and an investigation into potential fund misappropriation. Rollig, born in 1960, boasts 25 years of experience in contemporary art, having served as the federal curator and as the artistic director of Lentos Kunstmuseum Linz since 2004. Meanwhile, Bergmann, born in 1963, has expertise in theology and communications, with previous roles at Caritas Austria and Der Standard. The Belvedere complex encompasses the Upper Belvedere, Lower Belvedere, 21er Haus, and Winter Palace. A total of 35 candidates vied for the artistic director position, while 51 applied for the commercial director role.
