Stelios Pupet's Pixel-Like Oil Paintings and Murals

Stelios Pupet, born in Athens in 1983 and trained at the Athens School of Fine Arts, creates oil paintings and murals that start from a grid but evolve into irregular, pixel-like mosaics. His works often depict female bodies in ambiguous poses, surrounded by succulents, vases, and animals, rendered with a process that embraces unpredictability—he chooses forms and colors spontaneously without a fixed plan. Pupet works across canvas, walls, and media including oils, gouache, acrylics, and spray paint. His murals have appeared across Europe: Eberbach (Germany), Annemasse (France), the Wool festival in Covilhã (Portugal), Asalto in Zaragoza (Spain), as well as Belgium, the Netherlands, and Greek islands. His gallery exhibitions include shows in Athens, Art Athina fair, and recent group exhibitions in Portland, Atlanta, and Australia. The artist aims to create visually pleasing, contemporary images that communicate without explanation, balancing a mathematical grid system with a human, surprising outcome.
