Steirischer Herbst Festival Embraces Streets and Amateurs in Graz and Beyond

festival-fair · 2026-04-20

The Steirischer Herbst arts festival, overseen by Ekaterina Degot, is set to unfold outdoors in Graz and Styria from 9 September for a month, focusing on amateur productions and community involvement. Dejan Kaludjerović will engage with children in Graz to develop an opera alongside theatre director Bojan Djordjev. Phil Collins is scheduled to perform reggae music in various neighborhoods and lead discussions about its political significance. Hiwa K will operate an open-air kitchen cart featuring interactive cooking sessions. The festival's reach extends beyond Graz, with Die Rabtaldirndln creating sketch theatre in Hainersdorf. Theatre director Felix Hafner will collaborate with local residents throughout Styria. Other contributors include Hito Steyerl, Mark Waschke, and Thomas Hirschhorn. Last year, the event transitioned to an online format due to the pandemic.
