Stefanos Tsivopoulos Presents 'History Zero' Film and Archive for Greek Pavilion at Venice Biennale

Stefanos Tsivopoulos is representing Greece at the Venice Biennale with a new work titled 'History Zero,' a three-part film and an archive of texts and images. The project, located in the Giardini, questions the value of money and explores alternative currencies, aiming to interrogate the nature of crisis beyond the Greek context. Tsivopoulos notes the work is not specifically about the Greek crisis but examines where crises originate and possibilities for resistance. He describes the pavilion as the most exciting project he has worked on, differing from a normal exhibition. While honored to represent his country, he feels a sense of responsibility and finds the focus on the Greek crisis problematic, as it may lead audiences to seek answers in the wrong place. The artist emphasizes that 'History Zero' addresses viewers individually, focusing on interconnectivity and how actions affect others, rather than targeting specific audiences like peers or critics. Tsivopoulos recalls fond memories of visiting the Biennale as an art student, enjoying parties in Venice and Lido, and looks forward to seeing works by friends and peers in other national pavilions this year.
