Stefano Boeri's New Policlinico in Milan Features Elevated Garden
The Nuovo Policlinico di Milano hospital, designed by Stefano Boeri, is anticipated to be finished in 2022 with a budget of €266 million. Situated between via Sforza and via della Commenda, this 900-bed hospital will boast 6,000 square meters of greenery, including an elevated garden named 'Giardino Alto,' taking inspiration from New York's High Line. This endeavor, spearheaded by Techint S.p.A. and Boeri Studio, emerged victorious in an international competition held in 2008. The structure comprises two seven-story blocks, with a central section containing 21 operating rooms. The 'South Block' is dedicated to women and children, while the 'North Block' encompasses medical-surgical facilities. Excavation commenced in March 2016, supported by €200 million from both public and internal funding.
