Stefano Boeri's Bosconavigli Breaks Ground in Milan
Stefano Boeri Architetti, in collaboration with Stefano Bordi Architetti and Arassociati, has begun construction on Bosconavigli, a residential development in Milan's Navigli district. The project, promoted by Milano 5.0 with landscape design by AG&P greenscape, will cover over 8,000 square meters of a former brownfield site adjacent to the historic Borgo San Cristoforo. The building will be wrapped in 3,000 square meters of greenery, featuring trees on all facades and roofs transformed into green terraces. It will include around 90 housing units, with heights ranging from three to eleven stories, stepping down toward San Cristoforo. The design incorporates 60 plant species, solar panels, rainwater collection, and geothermal systems to filter pollutants, reduce energy consumption, and support biodiversity. The project is part of a larger urban renewal connecting the Navigli canals to the Tortona district, including a new public park and a bike lane along Via San Cristoforo. Boeri described it as a new high-biodiversity ecosystem, while Giovanni da Pozzo of Arassociati noted it reinterprets Milanese architectural typologies for a sustainable future.
