Stefano Boeri Interiors' TREE-ROOM installation at Arte Sella embraces three beech trees
Stefano Boeri Interiors has unveiled TREE-ROOM, a site-specific installation at Arte Sella's Villa Strobele garden in Val di Sella, Italy. The circular, permeable structure made of larch wood on a corten steel base encloses three beech trees that survived the Vaia storm in 2018, which devastated the open-air museum. Designed as a cohabitation experiment between humans and trees, the installation features multiple levels and blurs indoor-outdoor boundaries. It continues Arte Sella's architecture and design dialogue begun in 2017, following interventions by Michele De Lucchi, Kengo Kuma, Eduardo Souto De Moura, and Ian Ritchie. Boeri previously used Vaia-felled trunks for a 2019 set design at the Greek Theatre of Syracuse for Euripides' 'Trojan Women.' The work reflects on humanity's relationship with nature, the concept of boundaries, and the need for new pacts with other species.
