Stefano Boeri envisions Martian cities at FuoriSalone 2018

During Milan Design Week 2018, Stefano Boeri Architetti presents 'the Future of Living and the Planet of the Future' at The Mall, a subterranean space transformed into a Martian colony. The installation, part of space&interiors at Made Expo, features over twenty companies displaying their products on the Red Planet, juxtaposed with sci-fi films by Davide Rapp and Giorgio Zangrandi. Boeri's vision stems from research by the FCL – Future City Lab at Tongji University in Shanghai, which projects that by 2117, coastal cities like Shanghai may be partially submerged due to climate change. The proposal includes 'Vertical Forest Seeds'—green domes that enable photosynthesis and oxygen production on Mars. Boeri collaborated with Italian, European, and Chinese space agencies, referencing similar projects by Norman Foster and BIG. The installation runs until April 21 at Piazza Lina Bo Bardi 1, inviting visitors to reflect on climate migration and the possibility of interplanetary settlement.
