Stefano Boeri designs temporary vaccination pavilions for Italy

Stefano Boeri and his studio SBA have donated a design concept for Italy's national vaccination campaign, presented by Commissioner Domenico Arcuri. The campaign's symbol is the primrose flower, chosen to evoke trust and serenity after the pandemic. Boeri cited Pier Paolo Pasolini and referenced Andrea del Verrocchio's marble sculpture "Dama col mazzolino" to justify the floral motif. The integrated proposal includes a logo with the slogan "L'Italia rinasce con un fiore," temporary circular pavilions placed in main squares, and information totems in public spaces. The pavilions feature a wooden structure, prefabricated wooden platforms, and fabric partitions for lightness, flexibility, acoustic absorption, and transparency. They will be energy-autonomous via rooftop photovoltaic panels. The structures are designed to be disassembled and reassembled. Boeri stated that vaccination will be "a step of trust in the future, civic responsibility, and love for others." The campaign may also use augmented reality. Existing buildings will be included in the vaccination plan, though no details were provided.
