Stefano Boccalini's 'La ragione nelle mani' at Maison Tavel in Geneva

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Stefano Boccalini, artist and public art professor at NABA in Milan, presents the exhibition 'La ragione nelle mani' at Maison Tavel – Musée d'Art et d'Histoire in Geneva, curated by Adelina von Fürstenberg. The show features nine handcrafted objects based on untranslatable words from endangered languages (Anshim, Dadirri, Friluftsliv, Gurfa, Balikwas) selected with children and artisans from Monno in Val Camonica, a UNESCO heritage site for its rock carvings. The project, supported by the Italian Council grant won by the Distretto Culturale della Comunità Montana di Valle Camonica and in collaboration with Art for the World Europa, aims to revitalize local crafts and foster international dialogue. Artisans Gina Melotti (weaving), Amerino Minelli (wood carving), Ester Minelli (embroidery), and Alessandro Sandrini (hazelnut weaving) created the works with apprentices. After the exhibition, the pieces will go to GAMeC in Bergamo, while the Centro Ca' Mon in Monno will host artists and researchers. Boccalini, scientific consultant of the Archivio Gianni Colombo, has worked in the valley since 2013, including for Aperto_Art on the border and the installation 'Pubblica Privata' (2015).
