Stefano Bessoni's Wunderkammer at Mole Antonelliana

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The exhibition titled 'La Mole delle meraviglie' at Turin's Mole Antonelliana celebrates the work of filmmaker Stefano Bessoni (born in Rome, 1965) and Maria Adriana Prolo, the founder of the Museo Nazionale del Cinema. Featuring over 150 pieces from Bessoni’s archive alongside the museum’s collection, the exhibit showcases his artistic evolution in cinema, drawing, stop-motion animation, and puppetry. Themed rooms highlight figures such as Alessandro Antonelli and Charles Darwin. Bessoni describes the Mole as a 'mastodontic cabinet of wonders.' Since 2000, the museum has housed Prolo's collections, which originally served as a storage area. Her desk displays the 1951 book 'Storia del cinema muto italiano,' complemented by two additional volumes, including a catalog and a tribute to Prolo.
