Stefano Arienti's Meridiana installation at Mirad'Or on Lake Iseo

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Stefano Arienti (born 1961 in Asola) is the featured artist for 2022 at Mirad'Or, a pavilion on stilts overlooking the water from the pier of Pisogne, designed by architect Mauro Piantelli. The project, promoted by the Municipality of Pisogne and curated by Massimo Minini as artistic director, continues the dialogue with contemporary art initiated by Christo. For his installation titled Meridiana (2022), Arienti used common satin ribbons, a material available at any haberdashery, fixed on the floor and walls at defined intervals throughout the day. The ribbons capture and reflect the light from the water and sky, creating a work that evolves with the sun's movement. Unlike Daniel Buren's striped works exhibited at the same location in 2021, Arienti's stripes are not aligned according to pre-established formal paradigms but acquire a phenomenological life, marking the rhythm of time and space. The artist stated, 'I let the light decide.' The installation is described as a magical oxymoron: simultaneously a trace of shadow and a trap of light.
