Stefano Arienti's Diffuse Project 'Altana' in San Marino Continues Through January 2023

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The exhibition 'Altana', a diffuse project by artist Stefano Arienti in the Republic of San Marino, continues until January 31, 2023. It is the first event under the umbrella 'SM-Art. Sensibilità artistiche dagli anni Novanta', which aims to showcase the Italian generation of artists that emerged in the 1990s. The project is promoted by Claudio Poleschi Arte Contemporanea and was inaugurated one month after the death of its founder, gallerist Claudio Poleschi. The scientific committee includes critics Fabio Cavallucci, Giacinto di Pietrantonio, and Angela Vettese. Curator Fabio Cavallucci stated that the project will likely continue with a series of 1990s artists, as intended by Poleschi, with heirs and Umberto Bianchi committed to the line. However, discussions with San Marino institutions—the Galleria Nazionale and the Istituti Culturali—need to be resumed. Cavallucci considers Arienti one of the most important artists of his generation, lacking broad international recognition. The title 'Altana' refers to San Marino, and works conceived for public spaces—Galleria Nazionale, ancient Cisterne, and the former railway gallery—are inspired by the bird's-eye view, evoking a political idea of Europe seen from above, promoting tranquility and peace.
