Stefano Arienti's 80-piece series 'Le Meridiane' debuts at Villa Croce in Genoa
Villa Croce in Genoa presents 'Finestre Meridiane. Intersezioni con la collezione di Villa Croce,' a solo exhibition by Stefano Arienti curated by Anna Daneri and Francesca Serrati, running until January 14, 2018. The show features 80 previously unseen works—drawings, papers, and plasters—created by tracing shadows cast by window frames onto tables, a technique Arienti calls 'drawing with light.' The series, begun in 2012, was developed slowly over years, with the artist noting that he often lets new series mature before exhibiting. The exhibition opens on October 14 as part of the Giornata del Contemporaneo, organized by AMACI, which involves museums, galleries, and institutions across Italy. The event's guiding image is 'Pane Quotidiano' by Liliana Moro. Villa Croce is under the new direction of journalist Carlo Antonelli, formerly of Rolling Stone. Arienti, born in Asola in 1961 and based in Milan since 1980, explains that he follows the shadow of the window frame on the table in his home (west-facing, afternoon) and studio (east-facing, morning), tracing the lines as the sun moves, creating dynamic abstract drawings that pause when clouds pass.
