Stefania Miscetti closes Rome gallery after 36 years, shifts to project-based model
After 36 years of operation, Stefania Miscetti has shut down her renowned gallery in Rome's Trastevere district, which had been situated at Via delle Mantellate since 1989. She revealed this decision in an email on March 13, 2025, explaining that the gallery model had become outdated due to shifts in the art landscape, particularly a decrease in in-person attendance. Moving forward, Miscetti will run Studio Stefania Miscetti, launching with "Altri Venti: Scirocco" by Bruna Esposito in early May at a hidden garden in Trastevere. Factors leading to the closure include a dwindling collector base, the rise of digital engagement, and her own exhaustion. An architect as well, Miscetti previously donated her archive to the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna and was inspired by Maria Lai.
