Stefania Galegati's 'Isola delle Femmine' Project Wins Italian Council, Opens at Ecomuseo Mare Memoria Viva
The 13th edition of the Italian Council (2024) awarded Stefania Galegati's project 'Isola delle Femmine,' which is currently exhibited at the Ecomuseo Mare Memoria Viva in Palermo from May 28 to November 28, under the curation of Cristina Alga. The project reinterprets Isola delle Femmine, a name derived from a linguistic mistake. In 2017, Galegati, along with fellow artists, initiated a crowdfunding effort to support the island's cultural and social preservation. The exhibition showcases her residencies in Java and Tanzania in 2025 and 2026, where she worked with local groups and launched the 'Manifesto Infinito' to promote female empowerment. A hologram of the island is included, with future events planned, such as a gathering at Ocean Space in Venice in July 2026 and 'Our Sea of Islands' in September 2026.
