Stedelijk Museum to stage first major Kho Liang Ie retrospective in 2026

From 14 May to 18 October 2026, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam will host the first significant retrospective of Kho Liang Ie. This Indonesian-born designer, who made substantial contributions to Dutch design between the 1950s and the mid-1970s, is celebrated for his unique blend of playfulness and functionalism, utilizing unconventional materials. He achieved worldwide acclaim for his creations with Artifort and Mosa, and elements of his work remain visible at Schiphol Airport. Until 2002, a Dutch design award bore his name. The exhibition will showcase his influence in fostering a global network and introducing new talent to the Netherlands.
