Stedelijk Museum Examines Masculinity Beyond the Manosphere

The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam presents "Beyond the Manosphere – Masculinities Today," a group exhibition running until August 2, 2026. Curated by Melanie Bühler, the show features 35 artists with works from the 1960s to the present, including historical figures like Eduardo Paolozzi and Tetsumi Kudo alongside contemporary names such as Salman Toor and Diamond Stingily. The exhibition critically reimagines the manosphere as a broad territory, exploring masculinity through power, intimacy, queerness, race, and vulnerability. New commissions include Reba Maybury's response to Leo Gestel's "Reclining Nude" (1910), Jasmine Gregory's "Investment Piece" series, and SoiL Thornton's site-specific "Husband Chair." Performances by Zhana Ivanova are scheduled for opening night and select dates in April, May, and June 2025. Director Rein Wolfs notes the exhibition counters polarizing online discourse by inviting nuance, drawing from the collections of the Stedelijk and Kunstmuseum St.Gallen.
