Steady State: Video Art Explores the Universe at CRAC Taranto
The exhibition 'Stato stazionario' (Steady State) is part of the second edition of the Taranto Film Festival, held at CRAC, the contemporary art space of the Fondazione Rocco Spani. Curated by Roberto Lacarbonara and Antonio Frugis in collaboration with the Fondazione Pascali of Polignano a Mare, the show features seven video works addressing the festival's theme of metamorphosis. The title references the Steady State Theory, which posits continuous creation and transformation, contrasting with the Big Bang theory. Artists include Nathalie Djurberg (Premio Pascali 2012), whose pulp animation depicts cats overpowering crows under a violent child; Tao Hiu, presenting a video of a Chinese actress coming out in a taxi in Tehran; Sabrina Mezzaqui, filming a wind-blown curtain profile; Goldschmied & Chiari, with an explosion of sex toys in a gravitational magma; Sarah Ciracì, re-presenting 'Watershed' (2012) featuring water, architecture, and faces of Nichi Vendola, Maurice Nio, and Filippo Timi; Pamela Diamante, comparing tsunami and epilepsy as forces of 'forced dissolution'; and Marc Larré, whose 'Sincronias' pairs natural events with ironic subtitles. The exhibition runs during the festival.
