Stati d'arte 2024 brings 70 artists to Spello for 'Mondi Lontani' exhibition
The eighth edition of Stati d'arte, an international art review, is taking place in Spello, Umbria, in 2024, featuring 70 Italian and international artists. The main exhibition, titled 'Mondi Lontani' (Faraway Worlds), is hosted at Villa Fidelia and explores the theme of discovering the other and distant cultures, coinciding with the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo's death. The exhibition includes paintings, sculptures, installations, and performances both inside and outside the villa, running until September 8, 2024. The event is organized by the Associazione Casa degli Artisti, whose president stated that the international event promotes Umbrian territories in the artists' home countries through their embassies. The poster was designed by fashion designer Alviero Martini, known for his map-print motifs, hinting at the exotic theme. Spello is renowned for its flower-decorated balconies and the Infiorate festival during Corpus Domini in early June, where residents compete for the best balcony. The town also boasts the Villa dei Mosaici, a Roman archaeological site discovered in 2005, featuring 20 excavated rooms with 500 square meters of polychrome mosaic floors, including the Sala degli uccelli (Room of Birds), the Triclinium with Bacchic themes, and the Stanza del sole radiante (Room of the Radiant Sun). The villa dates from the Augustan age (27 BC–14 AD) and the early 3rd century AD, with the owner's identity unknown.
