Star Wars: Starfighter Announced at Star Wars Celebration 2025
At Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Japan, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni announced a new standalone film, Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling. Set five years after The Rise of Skywalker (2019), it features new characters and an unexplored time period. Production begins in autumn 2025, with an Italian release in May 2027. Levy and Gosling, both Star Wars fans, collaborated on the script. The film is part of eight announced Star Wars movies, including The Mandalorian & Grogu (May 2026), a Rey film by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy starring Daisy Ridley, projects by Taika Waititi and James Mangold, and a trilogy by Simon Kinberg. The next Star Wars Celebration is in 2027 in Los Angeles.
