St. Moritz Art Masters 2017: A Fragmented Tenth Edition
The tenth St. Moritz Art Masters (SAM) commenced with a retrospective exhibition at the Protestant church, organized by Galleria Robilant+Voena. Gallerist Marco Voena remarked that the exhibition looked back on the last ten years, showcasing artists such as Richard Long, who won the Cartier prize, along with Schnabel, Clemente, Vik Muniz, and Fontana. The show received criticism for its fragmented vision and the absence of a curatorial team. Among the prominent satellite exhibitions were a David Hockney project at Robilant+Voena, Roger Ballen's photography at Karsten Greve Gallery, and a solo display by Markus Raetz in Zuoz. Voena pointed out logistical difficulties due to the absence of a kunsthalle in St. Moritz, yet over 100 artists have participated in SAM's decade.
