Srijon Chowdhury's 'The Nude' at Ciaccia Levi, Milan

Srijon Chowdhury (Dhaka, 1987; lives in Portland) presents nine oil-on-linen paintings from 2023 at Ciaccia Levi's Milan space in the exhibition 'The Nude.' The works explore intimacy and vulnerability, featuring portraits of loved ones—his wife in bed, his brother before a mirror, a friend under a cherry tree in a flowering field. Landscapes are detailed yet dreamlike, incorporating symbolic elements like a unicorn in red flowers. Chowdhury's figures are traversed by undulating veins, representing emotions as a constant flow akin to blood. Gestures such as a hand gripping a flower with a knife convey fleeting intensity, while fragments of his wife's body evoke sensuality. The paintings balance reality and surrealism, with sheets that suggest both tumultuous nights and protective comfort. The exhibition runs at Galleria Ciaccia Levi in Milan.
