Spotify launches year-long partnership with NIVA to promote independent music venues

digital · 2026-04-17

Spotify has revealed a partnership with the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) that will last for a year, aimed at enhancing the visibility of independently owned music venues on its platform through 2026. This initiative will showcase NIVA's Certified Live Independent seal on venue pages and leverage features like the Live Events Feed. Starting this summer, a new playlist series called Independent Booker Spotlight will be introduced, featuring monthly picks from NIVA bookers in collaboration with Spotify's editorial team. Rene Volker, Spotify's Senior Director of Live Music, emphasized that independent venues serve as "the heartbeat of live music." Stephen Parker, NIVA's Executive Director, highlighted that these venues attract nearly 200 million fans each year. This partnership builds on Spotify's earlier support, including a $500,000 donation to NIVA's #SaveOurStages fund in 2021 amid pandemic closures. Currently, Spotify lists over 40 ticketing partners and has facilitated more than $1 billion in ticket sales for artists. Although Spotify experimented with direct ticket sales, it ended its 13-year collaboration with Songkick in 2024 while still integrating with major ticketing platforms.
