Spotify launches desktop app for AI-generated personal podcasts

Spotify released a new standalone desktop app called Studio by Spotify Labs that lets users create AI-generated podcasts based on personal data like emails, calendars, and documents. The app, available in research preview in over 20 markets to users 18 and older, includes an agent that browses the web to fetch personal information. Users can make multistep requests, such as generating a daily audio brief for a road trip that includes schedule, bookings, dinner recommendations, and a podcast suggestion. All generated podcasts are saved to the user's Spotify library and synced across devices but are not publicly available. Spotify warned that the AI can make mistakes and output unreliable content. The tool competes with Google's NotebookLM, which popularized podcast generation from source material, and similar features have been adopted by Adobe, ElevenLabs, Hero, and Huxe. The launch follows Spotify's recent command-line tool for coding platforms like Claude Code or Codex. The app could enable future integrations for podcast creation and potentially capture system audio for note-taking, similar to startups like Rewind and Cluely.
