Spot on... Exhibition Showcases Post-Soviet Photography from Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia

From September 9 to October 23, 2005, the ifa-Galerie in Stuttgart hosted the exhibition 'Spot on...', which highlighted contemporary photography from the Caucasus region. Curated by Wato Tsereteli and Barbara Barsch, the showcase examined the theme of documentary authenticity within post-Soviet landscapes. The displayed works from Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia tackled issues of national identity, geopolitical changes, and Soviet-era propaganda. Notable artists included Irina Abzhandadze, Rena Effendi, and Mekhti Mamedov, among others. The exhibition sought to impact the dialogue surrounding documentary photography, drawing connections to the Soros Institutes and the 2003 'Appendix 2' in Tbilisi. A catalogue featuring writings by Khatuna Kabulani and Teymur Daini accompanied the event.
