SponzArt 2017: Contemporary Art Meets Revolution in Irpinia

The fifth edition of Sponz Fest, directed by Vinicio Capossela, is underway in Calitri and Alta Irpinia until August 27, 2017. This year's theme is the centenary of the Russian Revolution, reflected in the title 'All’Incontre’ Я – Rivoluzioni e mondi al Яovescio'. The festival features a dense program of music, theater, dance, performance, readings, meetings, screenings, trekking excursions, happenings, and children's workshops. A dedicated contemporary art section, SponzArt, curated by Tommaso Evangelista, presents the exhibition 'Azioni per moto contrario', emphasizing performative and relational interventions. Artists include Collettivo FX, Andrea d’Amore, Michele Giangrande, Silvio Giordano, Michele Mariano, and Virginia Zanetti. Installations and performances include Michele Mariano's 'Degli Alberi Uomo e Degli Uomini', a football field made of LED lights in a forest; Michele Giangrande's 'Gears', large gears made from cardboard; Andrea d’Amore's 'ЯICAVATO' in the caves of San Zaccaria; Collettivo FX's mural 'Sciopero alla rovescia'; and Virginia Zanetti's 'I pilastri della terra', which inverts the human role to support the world. Screenings include Silvio Giordano's short film 'The Prince of Venusia' on Gesualdo da Venosa, and Joël Curtz's 'La Sposa', a tribute to artist Pippa Bacca, followed by a meeting with Mariangela Capossela, Tommaso Evangelista, and Bahar Adan from G-art gallery in Istanbul.
