Spellbound Contemporary Ballet Marks 25 Years with Triple-Bill Program

other · 2026-04-27

Spellbound Contemporary Ballet celebrated its 25th anniversary with a program titled Spellbound 25, premiered at the MilanOltre festival. The evening featured works by three choreographers: two pieces by company founder Mauro Astolfi, an original creation by Marcos Morau, and an assolo by Marco Goecke. Morau's Marte, inspired by Mars, imagines the planet as blue, inhabited by hooded youths wielding neon tubes. Goecke's Äffi (2005), set to Johnny Cash songs, is a powerful solo performed by Mario Laterza, characterized by rapid, nervous movements. Astolfi's Unknown Woman is a solo for Maria Cossu, while Wonder Bazaar critiques alienation through a sci-fi experiment involving an obsolete machine. The company was founded by Mauro Astolfi and general director Valentina Marini.
