Specchio41: Brescia's First Independent Space Opens with Maverick Exhibition
Specchio41, Brescia's first independent art space, has opened in the city's Carmine district. Founded by artists Manuel Gardina and Zen Zero, the space evolved from their shared studio after a chance meeting with curator Pietro Bazzoli. The inaugural exhibition, Maverick, features works by both founders, highlighting their shared focus on overlooked details—Gardina through uncontrolled gestures and color, Zen Zero through natural elements and symbolic painting. Brescia has seen a cultural renaissance in recent years, including the reopening of Pinacoteca after nine years, exhibitions featuring Steve McCurry, Christo, and Mimmo Paladino, and a Picasso painting shown at Palazzo Martinengo. Specchio41 aims to be a publicly accessible studio with a strong programming schedule. Planned for 2019 are photography and street art shows, a possible summer review combining painting and design, and semi-collective exhibitions where each artist dialogues with a selected artist's single work. The founders are also developing a project on digital themes.
