Spaziosiena Launches Video Art Series 'La Stagione' Curated by Vincenzo Estremo

Spaziosiena, the contemporary art center in Siena run by Stefania Margiacchi and Alessia Posani, has launched a new video art series titled 'La Stagione,' curated by Vincenzo Estremo. The series aims to educate audiences on the history and evolution of moving images from the 1990s to the present. It consists of four monthly screenings, starting August 8, 2019, at 7 PM with Christian Boustani's 1992 work 'Cités Antérieures: Siena.' The project is fully sponsored by private boutique Dolci Trame and features courtesy of Vidéographe, Montréal. Estremo selected works by Sadie Benning (introspection and gender), Maya Schweizer (history and memory), and Alterazioni Video (politics and image in Italy). The series replaces traditional exhibition formats with preparatory meetings and screenings emphasizing didactic value. Estremo, who co-edited the volume 'Extended temporalities. Transient visions in the museum and in art' (2016) with Alessandro Bordina and Francesco Federici, discusses the temporalities of moving images and the need for critical engagement in an age of image saturation. He cites media archaeology and Erkki Huhtamo's work on the 19th-century kaleidoscope to contextualize contemporary attention spans.
