spazioSERRA: Milan's Underground Urban Museum in Lancetti Station

spazioSERRA, an octagonal glass-walled exhibition space inside Milan's Lancetti railway underpass, relaunches in 2021 with a season themed 'venerazioneMUTANTE' focused on impermanence. Founded in 2017 through the Artepassante project, the venue was originally a commercial unit before being repurposed as a cultural hub. It is now run by a collective of ten young students and workers who handle curation, installation, communication, and publishing. The space's transparent walls allow constant visibility to commuters, making it a site-specific public art platform. The 2021 open call invites artists to create 'mutant' works that evolve over time, challenging conservation norms. Past exhibitions include Giacomo Lambrugo's 'Grown' (a drying turf with plastic flowers), Erica Kimberly Lizzori's '280 blu' (280 blue found objects), and Anna Bochkova's 'Le città felici hanno l’architettura' (arch-sculptures on human condition). The collective aims to regenerate the suburban area and give visibility to emerging art, describing itself as 'a small urban museum' creating an 'art incident in the monochrome of submodernity'.
