Spazio Y Calls for Independent Space Manifestos
Spazio Y, a Rome-based collective, has launched an open call titled M/AAV, Manifesti: Appunti per un’Autonomia della Visione, inviting independent art spaces and collectives to create a programmatic manifesto defining their vision of independence from the official art system. The deadline is March 31, 2019. The project originated from an invitation by Bologna's Fat Studio to participate in RAID, where Spazio Y first explored the theme of 'learning to observe.' The call's results were presented at Manifesta 12 in Palermo at Palazzo Savona, featuring works by Sicilian artists. A video compiling the manifestos will circulate among independent spaces. Spazio Y aims to launch multiple calls, with no definitive end. A scientific committee will be formed to evaluate submissions. The project has partnered with NESXT – Independent Art Network, and all materials will be archived in the online platform Osservatorio, dedicated to analyzing Italian independent realities. In May 2019, during the Turin Book Fair, the project will culminate in a public exhibition of urban billboards across the city. Spazio Y founders Ilaria Goglia and Silvia Marsano emphasize the importance of integrating art with local history and territory, as demonstrated by their work in Palermo.
