Spazio Parallelo: New Milan Hub for Emerging Artists
Spazio Parallelo, a curatorial and exhibition project founded by the Collettivo Piano A, opened in February 2025 at Villa Giuseppina in Milan's Affori district. The collective, initiated in 2019 by Francesco Perrini and Alvise Decastello (aka Alvise Pi) after meeting at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, previously staged site-specific interventions in unconventional venues such as a kebab shop, metro stations, sex shops, and restaurants, often using food delivery apps. Spazio Parallelo operates as a shared house for artists, hosting regular group shows, solo exhibitions, residencies, and talk-dinners streamed on social media. The inaugural event invited guests to bring a 20×20 cm work on paper, installed in the living room. In March, the exhibition "MAXI" recreated a fake supermarket, summarizing Piano A's history. In May, an abandoned car box adjacent to the villa became an independent exhibition space, debuting with Leonardo Gambini's "L'Attesa di Sparire." The first residency in June, selected via open call, hosted Chinese performance artist Liu Bokang, who created "Song to Sin," transforming a room into a confessional-karaoke where visitors sang secrets. The fall season opened with "Teasty Phony," a group show featuring Valentina Bobbo, Jeanne Gourlaouen (from Rivoli 59, Paris), and Giorgio Di Palma, exploring the tension between appearance and reality through food metaphors, installed in the kitchen, living room, and bedroom.
