spazio_duale: New Photography Hub Opens in Rome's Pastificio Cerere
A new multidisciplinary space dedicated to visual arts, spazio_duale, has opened inside the Pastificio Cerere in Rome's San Lorenzo district. Directed by photographer Jacopo Tofani, the venue combines an exhibition area, a bookshop curated by Leporello photobooks, and a bistrot. The space aims to foster dialogue across photography, illustration, design, multimedia, street art, painting, graphic novels, sculpture, and architecture through exhibitions, workshops, and talks. The inaugural show, "Images of Normality," was followed by "Most Were Silent" by Anush Hamzehian and Vittorio Mortarotti, running until March 31, 2019. spazio_duale collaborates with ISFCI (Istituto Superiore di Fotografia), founded by Tofani's uncle in 1985, and with gallerist Niccolò Fano of Matèria. The project emerged in early 2018 from the need to expand the school's spaces and create a hub for visual arts. Tofani, who grew up in the Pastificio and worked at ISFCI from age 20, now manages the institute alongside his mother, president Francesca Chiumiento.
