Spazio Bidet: Art in a Former Public Toilet and Wine Shop Window in Milan

Spazio Bidet, a non-profit contemporary art space founded in 2018 by Thomas Ferembach in a former worker's toilet in a private courtyard on via Padova, Milan, has relocated to a window display at Enoteca La Botte on via Giacosa 11. After closing its original location during the 2020 health crisis, the space developed off-site projects including Bidet à Boire, a glass engraving project ongoing by Ferembach, John Mirabel, and Francesca Mussi. In 2021, Ferembach and Mirabel built a new 13,490-liter curved space within the wine shop's window, with 4-meter-high walls, 1.25 meters deep and 3 meters wide. The space is curated by the two artists and invites both artists and curators to reflect on exhibition principles within an invariant module visible to passersby. The inaugural show, An Art Handler Collection, opened on September 15. Spazio Bidet has hosted exhibitions by Andrea Bennardo, John Mirabel, Francesca Mussi, and the collective Yassemeck. The window itself has featured works by Ehsan Mehrbakhsh and Fulvia Monguzzi. Between exhibitions, the space hosts performances, concerts, and readings.
