Spazio Bianco: New Photography Center Opens in Pesaro with Cinema Duse Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Spazio Bianco, a new photography center, has opened in Pesaro's historic center, occupying a former gallery space and sharing premises with PR agency Intercontact. Managed by the municipality and curated by Marcello Smarrelli, it operates as a spin-off of the Centro Arti Visive Pescheria. The inaugural exhibition, 'Il Duse. Cinema Divino,' runs until August 16 and features photographs by Michele Alberto Sereni (born 1958 in Pesaro). Sereni's black-and-white images document the Cinema Duse, a former 17th-century church turned music school, theater, and cinema, which now lies abandoned. The building's history includes a 1926 inauguration by Luigi Pirandello, a 1952 renovation by architect Nicola Amoroso featuring a chandelier by Lucio Fontana and a sculptural panel by Giò Pomodoro. Sereni's photos, originally taken in 1990 for a catalog, capture the Bauhaus-like synergy of art forms within the space. The exhibition also includes a personal tribute to actress Eleonora Duse, depicting a woman attached to a rock. A catalog with text by curator and art historian Milena Becci accompanies the show.
