Spark Art Fair Vienna 2024: A Democratic Model with Strong Sales

festival-fair · 2026-04-26

Spark Art Fair Vienna returned from March 15 to 17, 2024, after a setback in 2023, proving the value of its original format. The fair, curated by Walter Seidl, Jan Gustav Fiedler, Marina Fokidis, and Christoph Doswald, features solo presentations where each gallery shows one artist in equal-sized booths. The 2024 edition focused on the theme 'The City in Dialogue,' highlighting Vienna's role as an art hub, and introduced a talk and screening program at the Globe theater. Notable sales included works by Signe Pierce (shown at MoMA), Pierre Vermeulen (sold out), and Viktor Frešo. The fair's democratic pricing ranged from hundreds of euros to €1.25 million for a Carl Andre piece. Galleries like Nächst St. Stephan Rosemarie Schwarzwälder, Elektrohalle Rhomberg, and Galerie Kandlhofer sold out during preview. Konrad Fischer Galerie presented Carl Andre's '8×8 Cedar Solid' (€1.25 million) but did not sell it; smaller works up to €25,000 found buyers. Galerie Mennour offered Elizabeth Jaeger sculptures (€1,000–€20,000). Annka Kultys Gallery sold multiple video works. Newcomers Galleria Citronne and Reservoir Gallery (Cape Town) reported strong results. K Gallery (Denver) sold Viktor Frešo's interactive sculpture 'Roly Poly.' The next edition is scheduled for March 20–23, 2025, at Marx Halle.
