Spanish startup LIUX launches BIG, a lightweight electric microcar with a linen composite body
Founded in 2021, the Spanish startup LIUX has introduced the BIG, an electric microcar crafted from bio-based linen materials, with a price tag under €18,000, now available in Europe. Weighing less than 600 kg, it boasts a carbon footprint that is 40% lower than conventional electric vehicles. Co-founder David Sancho Domingo emphasizes the significance of weight savings, noting that the upper body structure is merely 45 kg, utilizing a flax fibre composite created in collaboration with Swancor. Flax not only captures CO2 but also allows for complete decomposition, facilitating closed-loop recycling. This bio-based material cuts CO2 emissions by 61% compared to steel. The BIG is categorized as an L7e heavy quadricycle, with a speed limit of 90 km/h and competes with affordable Chinese alternatives.
