Spanish cellist and producer Yamila announces new album Noor for February 2026

artist · 2026-04-26

Yamila, a Spanish cellist, singer, and producer born in Granada, studied classical cello in Madrid and sonology at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, and now splits her time between Brussels and Madrid. Her debut album Iras Fajro (2019, Forbidden Colours) was created with British producer Clark (Warp) and flamenco composer Niño de Elche (Sony). Her second album Visions (2022, Umor Rex) featured New York musician Rafael Anton Irisarri on a track inspired by Manuel de Falla's Suite Espagnola (1922), blending Baroque, Spanish folklore, and electronic music. Yamila has performed at Sonic Acts Festival (Amsterdam), Ars Electronica (Linz), Rewire (The Hague), and Rotterdam Film Festival, and created music for dance productions at Göteborg Opera, Nederlands Dans Theater, and Dance Forum Taipei. She recently released two singles from her upcoming album Noor, set for release on February 6, 2026, via Umor Rex. The album was composed while she was trying to conceive her daughter; its title means "light" in Arabic, reflecting hope and grace. In an interview, she defined art as "the possibility that something new emerges" and music as "what shapes the gaze and sustains the body." She cites Francis Bacon as a favorite visual artist and John Cage's 4'33" as her favorite song.
