Spain Expands Youth Cultural Bonus to Include Art Materials and Courses

cultural-heritage · 2026-05-19

Spain's Council of Ministers approved a revamped Bono Cultural Joven for 2026, expanding eligible expenses to include musical instruments, art materials, and cultural training courses, both in-person and online. Culture Minister Ernest Urtasun emphasized the shift from passive consumption to active artistic practice and personal development. The 400-euro bonus can now be used entirely for training and creation tools or split across categories: up to 200 euros for live arts, heritage, and creative media (including tickets, instruments, cameras, software); 100 euros for physical cultural products (books, records, video games); and 100 euros for digital consumption (streaming, audiobooks, digital press, online courses). The program aims to reach rural areas and vulnerable youth through partnerships with third-sector organizations. In 2025, 363,054 young people (68.5% of those turning 18) benefited, and total users have surpassed 1.2 million since inception. Separately, the Cine Sénior program was extended from July 2026 to June 2027 with 11.5 million euros, allowing seniors over 65 to attend cinemas on Tuesdays for two euros; over 1.5 million senior viewers have participated in the current edition.
