architecture-design · 2026-05-14

Portuguese architecture firm spaceworkers has completed the Museo de Vila do Bispo, a 1100 m² cultural museum in Vila do Bispo, Portugal, in 2024. The project, curated by Susanna Moreira, adds a new volume to an existing building, replicating the form of adjacent structures to ensure urban continuity while establishing a distinct identity as the main entrance. The design team includes Marco Santos, João Ortigão, Tiago Maciel, and Akitoshi Kimura, with lead architects Henrique Marques and Rui Dinis. Photography is by Fernando Guerra | FG+SG. The intervention preserves the site's identity and the existing building's characteristics, with the new volume asserting its own presence while safeguarding the original structure.
