Southeast Asian Tripartite Exhibition and Korean Biennials Highlight Autumn 2018 Art Season
The "Ties of History: Art in Southeast Asia" exhibition, curated by Patrick D. Flores, is currently being held in Manila at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, Vargas Museum, and Yuchengco Museum until October 6. This tripartite showcase includes one artist from each ASEAN member nation, such as Amanda Heng from Singapore and Roberto Feleo from the Philippines. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of ASEAN, it reflects on the 1967 Bangkok Declaration, with context provided by T.K. Sabapathy's 1993 critique. Philippine senator Loren Legarda supports the idea of making this a biennial event. Additionally, the 12th Gwangju Biennale in South Korea is ongoing until November 11, alongside the Busan and Seoul Mediacity Biennales, both concluding in November. Norberto Roldan's solo exhibition at Silverlens in Manila is open until October 13.
