institutional · 2026-04-19

The Southbank Centre in London has received a £10 million grant from the government for essential maintenance as it celebrates its 75th anniversary. This funding is part of the £96 million Creative Foundations Fund, which aids 130 cultural institutions throughout the UK. Elaine Bedell, the chief executive of the Southbank Centre, emphasized that the grant will help fix leaking roofs and upgrade outdated systems. Since a significant renovation started in 2005, the centre has encountered financial difficulties. The Creative Foundations Fund also allocates resources to 74 arts organizations, such as Autograph ABP (£499,950) and Baltic Centre (£3.6 million). Additional funding sources include the £25.5 million Museum Estate and Development Fund and the £6.3 million Libraries Improvement Fund, part of the £1.5 billion Arts Everywhere Fund.
