South London Gallery marks 135 years with SLG Forever exhibition at Christie’s

exhibition · 2026-05-22

The South London Gallery (SLG) marks its 135th anniversary with SLG Forever, a fundraising exhibition created in collaboration with Christie’s. This event will take place in London from June 5 to June 25, 2026, with an online showcase available until September 30. It showcases pieces donated by more than 25 prominent British and international artists, such as Tracey Emin, Antony Gormley, and Yinka Shonibare. The exhibition initiates the SLG Forever campaign, with a goal of raising £2 million for facility enhancements, new art commissions, and the expansion of the Communities & Learning programme. Margot Heller, SLG Director, thanked the artists for their contributions. The exhibition is free and part of Christie’s London Summer Season, reflecting the institution’s rich history. Founded by philanthropist William Rossiter, SLG encompasses its original Peckham Road site, the Fire Station (opened in 2018), Art Block on Sceaux Gardens Estate, and an artist-designed garden, generating over half its income from various sources.
